What Happened Before the Big Bang?

what happened before the big bang

I never believed in the "Big Bang" theory.

I believed that God created the heavens and earth, as Moses tells us in Genesis. But I never understood until I was older and read John 1:3, when I realized that Jesus was the Agent of Creation!

Today's article explains that He loved you and me before He created the world!

************************************

When I was teaching and scientists came in to lecture on the “big bang” theory, I would ask them, “Well, what went on before the Big Bang?” and they were puzzled.

Sometimes one would say, “Well, nobody knows.”

As gently as I could, I would say, “I do.”

“How could you possibly know anything about that?”

“I know Someone who was there.” And this is not a boast, simply an affirmation of what the Bible says.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Jesus in Revelation 22:13

Who Was There Before the Big Bang?

The Lord Jesus* (4BC-30AD) was there, and He is the only One who can shed light on Eternity's past. It is a vast and very mysterious area that the human mind can never fully comprehend, but Jesus does give us some important material on His life and role in that vast eternity past.

An asterisk* after a name means that the person is in SPIRITUAL LIVES.

What Was There Before the Big Bang?

Long before any matter was created there was love and relationship. God’s glory was manifest in eternal love.

You loved Me before the foundation of the world. JOHN 17:24

Jesus was, “the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father.” --John 1:18

Although our understanding of the terms “father” and “son” make us think that one came after the other, the Bible presents them as one eternal and defining relationship. Can there be a son without a father? Can there be a Father without the Son?

And Jesus Himself declares, I and my Father are one. John 10:30

What Was Going on Before the Big Bang?

OK, but what was He doing in Eternity's past? He was working with the Father in preparing the way for us: and He is the Way!

I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

And although Jesus uttered this word in 30 AD, this way, this truth, and this life was scripted in Eternity past: written in the book of life from the foundation of the world…Rev 17:8. It was He Who wrote all those names there.

What Was Going on Before the Big Bang Regarding Me?

God chose you before the world began! You were on His mind! Jesus spoke of His role in this to his disciples during His ministry on earth: Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, -John 15:16.

I had always limited my understanding of this to the context of His calling the disciples during His ministry on earth, but I see now it is much broader as the Holy Ghost revealed it to the Apostle Paul:

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: ---Ephesians 1:4

and not only the choosing of us as individuals but also our very path on the way:

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

The Lord Jesus Christ not only chose us before the foundation of the world but knew us and our life’s glorious outcome. And His purpose was to make all this known to us, in what the Bible calls “the fullness of time.” Galatians 4:4

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one. --John 10:27-30

My mind is boggled when I think of all this. Can we even speak of “TIME” in Eternity Past? The word “ETERNITY” suggests an unending period, not thousands, millions, billions, or even trillions of years but something Greater than that!

What could have occupied all that “time,” I wonder. How much time would it take for the Divine Author to write His plans and ordain the good works for each of us to walk in? For all the billions of people, He created? And this is just on our little planet.

Could there ever be enough for His account of the numberless stars and beings He was to speak into being? What a mighty God is He! What love He had for us before we were even born!

You are precious to Jesus; He has chosen you to be His own. Let me know if I can be of any help. A good place to start is my article “DOES BORN AGAIN MEAN SAVED?”

Read more about Jesus and the 6 stages of His life in AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

As I write this I see that the consensus of those who created the Big Bang theory is weakening. This is the nature of hypotheses and science, change and updating are necessary and continuous. How foolish we are to put our faith in man's fleeting ideas when we can abide in Jesus, the One who has not only given us the Bible to answer our questions about how the world came to be, but the One who was the Agent of creation. He is above change, He is above all, and yet He loves you and me. How marvelous. Pick up His book wherever you have a question or simply bring it to Him when you pray. He will surely give you an answer as you seek and has promised that whoever seeks will find. Praise God!

Jesus is God! The solid earth,

The ocean broad and bright,

The countless stars like golden dust,

That strew the sky at night,

The wheeling storm, the dreadful fire,

The pleasant wholesome air,

The summer’s sun, the winter’s frost,

His own creation were.

Jesus is God! The glorious bands

Of golden angels sing

Songs of adoring praise to Him,

Their maker and their king.

He was true God in Bethlehem’s crib,

On Calvary’s cross true God,

He who in Heav’n eternal reigned,

In time on earth abode.

Jesus is God! Let sorrow come,

And pain, and every ill,

All are worthwhile, for all are means

His glory to fulfill;

Worthwhile a thousand years of woe

To speak one little word,

If by that I believe we own

The Godhead of our Lord.

Jesus is God! O! could I now

But compass earth and sea,

To teach and tell the single truth,

How happy should I be!

O! had I but an angel’s voice,

I would proclaim so loud,

Jesus, the good, the beautiful,

Is everlasting God.

Frederick W. Faber, Hymns 1862.
